By circulating thermal transfer fluid through a ground loop (a sealed network of water pipes buried underground), it is possible to utilise the heated water/Antifreeze mix that is returned to the pump, and by a process of ‘phase changing’ in the pump's refrigerant, heat your premises using very little energy!
With only a small amount of electricity* used in the process, GSHP makes a marked difference on your carbon footprint, and a heat pump with mid-range efficiency uses approximately a third of the energy needed in an average gas or oil boiler to produce an equal amount of heat.
In heating mode a ground source heat pump increases the temperature obtained from the ground by between 3.5 and 6.5 – A typical process would see 75% energy realised from the ground combined with an electricity* input of 25%.
The same process can also be used to cool your premises, and at G-Core we employ the technology to provide active and passive heating, active and passive cooling, reversible, or simultaneous heating and cooling and high temperature hot water giving you complete control over your environment.
* You could reduce your electricity input further by utilising solar panels or a wind turbine. Those methods combined with GSHP could make your heating and cooling carbon neutral!
